Grade 4 2019-2020 Assessment

Classroom Assessment

The students will be evaluated through the implementation of a variety of program-related activities in all the subject areas (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, and Art) according to the Alberta Program of Studies (  The evaluation process will be formative and summative and marks will reflect student progress for each reporting period.  The assessment will be further divided into outcomes and category descriptors.  Assignments will be assessed through learning expectations with a range of five levels that include:  exceedingly independent; met with minimal support; met with moderate support; approaching with high support; and below with high support.


The school will be communicating with parents three times this year.  The first reporting period will be in November, the second reporting period will be in March, and the third or final reporting period will be in June.  In addition to the reporting periods, there will be further communication through parent/teacher interviews.  Throughout the year, parents will be made aware of student progress through:  student tests and assignments, phone calls, emails, agendas, Google Classroom, and the James Mowat eTeacher page.

Report cards will only be published online and in general, no paper copies will be sent home with students.  To access your child’s report card, you will need to either log into your PowerSchool  Parent Portal, or create your PowerSchool Parent Portal account.  Both can be found at:  PowerSchoolParent Portal.  If you require assistance with the PowerSchool Parent Portal, please feel free to contact the school office @780-992-1272.  If you do not access to a computer, please contact the homeroom teacher to receive a paper copy of the report card.  Report cards will be published on the following dates:


Term 1 – November, 2019

Term 2 – March, 2020

Term 3 – June, 2020


Each student is allowed 2 homework negatives a month (homework negative is when a student does not complete their homework assignment and/or returned late).  If the student gets 3 or more homework negatives in that month, we will contact parents by phone, email or agenda to inform parents.
